Knock knock jokes have been around forever! Since about the 1930's to be more exact. This type of joke actively involves both the teller and a listener in a back and forth format. Starting with "knock knock" the individual telling the joke sets up the conversation allowing the recipient to resond with "who's there?" The teller replies with some sort of word or phrase that acts as the setup for the punch line and the listener responds by repeating this phrase followed by "who?" The punch line is delivered providing the humor. Knock knock jokes are very often puns making use of double meanings and word misuse.
